Internet Usage Has More Than Doubled In The Past Three Years: Can Experts Explain This?
Internet usage has been growing rapidly for the last twenty years are more and more people have purchased computers and high speed broadband connections for their homes. You might be surprised to learn though, in the past three years the total number of internet users around the world has more than doubled (almost tripled in fact). With that in mind, this article is going to highlight some of the main reasons experts believe this has occurred so late in the game. While there can be no definite answer, we believe the industry leaders we’ve spoken to are probably right in their conclusions. So, take some time to read through all the points made below, and everything should start to make a bit more sense.
Here are some of the reasons they came up with…
Faster internet connections
Believe it or not, in some places around the country it was still almost impossible to get a high speed connection three years ago. Thanks to increased profits and investment though, this is no longer the case. That means people feel more inclined to purchase a computer and get involved. At the end of the day, if you’ve never used YouTube or any of the major social networks, you would probably feel a bit left out, right? This all contributes to an increase in users.
Better online games
The video gaming industry is huge. Millions and millions of young people all over the world spend a couple of hours on their Xbox or PlayStation every single night. In the past, this was the best option because online games were substandard and far too unstable for most gaming enthusiasts. Thankfully though, HTML5 developers have been working their socks off to improve the situation, and they’ve been rather successful. There are now some pretty amazing online games available that are easily better than those found on traditional consoles.
More countries joining the online revolution
Whilst there are only a few governments in the world that do not allow their citizens access to the internet, there are a lot of authorities that insist on a state-run firewall. That is obviously off-putting to the residents of those countries, and so many of them have never bothered purchasing a computer in the past. However, thanks to pressure from the international community, many of these nations have decreased the power of their firewalls or simply removed them altogether, allowing free speech and online movement to flow.
Increasing birth rates
The world’s population has been increasing at an alarming rate for the past twenty years or so, but it seemed to reach a peak in the mid 1990s. That means there are more people coming of age now and buying their own properties than ever before. So, it makes sense more internet users are crawling out of the woodwork.
We’re sure you’ll agree that those points are most likely to answer to our question. The only thing left to ponder upon now is if this trend will continue. Unfortunately though, for that, we’ll just have to wait and see.
